Apparently a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 was chosen as the vessel for a collection of digital memories related to Queen Elizabeth’s 60 year reign. It’s part of a Jubilee digital time capsule organized by the Royal Commonwealth Society. The Queen was presented with the tablet and she was able to use the touchscreen interface to watch the videos, photographs and messages that were chosen.
The Diamond Collection actually consists of over 80,000 entries after the organizers collected contributions from over 37,000 people in 66 countries. They then realized that 150GB was never going to fit on a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and whittled the collection down to the top 60 entries.
If you’re interested you can access the whole collection online and there’s even a free app, which is bizarrely for the iPad. Apparently organizers had considered using the iPad, but opted for Samsung’s tablet after discussing the project with both companies. We wonder what Samsung said to clinch the deal.
In any case, after the Queen is finished with it, the tablet in question will end up in Windsor Castle as part of the Royal Collection.
The memories include all sorts of things from the Queen’s coronation, to the Falklands war, to the London riots last year. There are also lots of personal memories of weddings, first days at school and that type of thing. It’s all terribly British, as you might expect.
So, there you have it, the Queen prefers an Android tablet to the iPad, take that Apple.
