Sony is taking competition seriously. After James Bond’s Xperia T and its impressive 4.6 inch HD display, 13 MP camera, and powerful 1.5GHz dual-core processor, Sony is already prepping its next big thing. And this time, Sony wants to take on the big boys.
James van Schie, Sales and Marketing CVP of Sony Mobile Communications stated in an interview with Germany’s Financial Times that Sony “will create in the near future a flagship model that can compete with Apple’s iPhone and Samsung’s Galaxy S3.”
Although it’s a bit late to compete with the S3 in 2013, we might be in for a treat from Sony as early as CES in January or Mobile World Congress in February 2013. The rumored flagship smartphone might be the previously leaked Sony Yuga, a 5-inch 1080p quad-core device, powered by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
In addition to the boasting related to next year’s flagships, Sony has emphasized its focus on Android but has not ruled out making Windows Phone devices. By playing it safe and not excluding a collaboration with Microsoft, Sony keeps its options open in case Redmond’s new operating system is actually succcesful.
So, if you are patient enough to resist all the tempting deals this holiday season, it might be worth it to wait for Sony’s beast of Android device in early 2013. What would you like to see in this upcoming handset from Sony?
