It’s pretty unusual to see companies like Samsung and LG basically skip past CES, the one tech-related trade show that everybody seemed to care about until recently, but fortunately the Android ecosystem’s diversity has struck again, making this year’s Vegas event as glamorous as always.

Nvidia, Sony and Huawei have all come to our rescue with a bunch of dazzling new Android gizmos, ensuring that our team of highly enthusiastic reporters stationed in Las Vegas… well, has something to report on.
And boy, are our guys busy bringing you exclusive hands-on previews with all the exciting new gadgets! First, we’ve seen the Xperia Z on tape with its mouth-watering 5-inch 1080p display, then we’ve had Huawei’s colossal Ascend Mate smile nicely to the camera, and now we bring you a first look of the Ascend D2.
This big guy, while much easier to be controlled with one hand than the Mate, still feels heavy and robust, with all the good and bad things that come from that. The 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1,920 x 1,080 pixels resolution is certainly a sight for sore eyes, although the dust and water resistant body is just a tad too bulky.
Huawei’s bosses have never been fans of “vanilla” Android, so the company’s latest flagship also doesn’t come with stock software. However, the Emotion UI that spices up Android 4.1 Jelly Bean doesn’t really spoil the user experience, being pretty clean and smooth.
In terms of hardware, things are simply awesome, so we don’t see any reason to be unhappy with the Ascend D2. There’s a quad-core 1.5 GHz Huawei “homebrewed” chip inside, 2 gigs of RAM, 32 GB of on-board memory, as well as a large enough 3,000 mAh battery. There’s also a monster 13 MP snapper on the back, while on the flipside there’s no microSD support for expanding the internal storage space.
We could go on and on with what makes the Huawei Ascend D2 special, but we’d rather stop here and let the video from Las Vegas do all the talking. Derek Ross, you have the floor.
