Malware is nefarious software built by equally tragic people. Whether the goal is to simply disrupt your life, or hold your information ransom, the story is always the same. Sometimes it’s just some lowly kid in a basement, and sometimes malware is a result of a highly coordinated attack. Whatever the case, malware sucks and we hate it.

A very small number of people are actually affected by malware, meaning our mobile security is inherently good. In a world where mobile is becoming the method of choice for just about everything, you can expect those malware developers to adjust their game plan accordingly. We’re comfortable in our mobile world, but that could change.
A recent report suggests malware is moving away from PC’s and into the mobile realm. Until now, malware has relied on using the guise of an app to be loaded onto your device via sources like the Play Store or Amazon marketplace. The study goes on to say that your mobile browser may now be the new battleground.
This new method of infiltration is a throwback, using a compromised website to download malware into your device. The difference is that the website, and thus malware, target mobile devices specifically. What was once a shooting gallery for web viruses is now a targeted attack. Will that matter, though?
Android is sandboxed throughout, and the instance of malware is actually really low. Nobody is immune the the threats, but an exercise in best practises will carry you far. Rather than spend an exorbitant amount on malware security software, take matters into your own hands.
How can you save yourself? The same way you always do! By being smart about what sites you visit, and which apps you download, your chances of catching those dirty, dirty malware diseases plummets. Make sure the “Unknown Sources” option under “Security” in your settings is not selected, and never open anything that you’re not sure of. While malware may never cease, and will always work its way into the fold somehow, we can all do our part to stay safe.
