Engadget reports that they’ve spotted a Galaxy S3 with support for T-Mobile’s LTE network making its way through the FCC Monday night. The device supports the 1700MHz AWS band, which is the frequency T-Mobile uses for its LTE network.
The device’s model number, SGH-T999L, shows the Galaxy S3 with LTE support as a clear successor to T-Mobile’s current Galaxy S3, the SGH-T999. The SGH-T999L also has indication that it supports HSPA+ over the 1900, 1700 and 850MHz bands. The handset also has support for LTE Band 17, which is a common band among AT&T phones.
The fact that the device supports LTE Band 17 means it will make it easy to switch over to AT&T’s network. Let’s just hope that the unlocking ban gets lifted so we can take advantage of this handy feature. Then again, it could be a while before we even see the device in stores. All we have is a rumored March 27 launch date for the device.
The Galaxy S3 LTE on T-Mobile sounds nice and all, but we can’t help but wonder how well it will do in terms of sales. After all, we’re about to see the Galaxy S4 unveiling during Samsung’s Unpacked event on March 14.
Will you be snagging a Galaxy S3 LTE from T-Mobile when it becomes available? Are you holding out for the Galaxy S4?
