As most Android fans know, Samsung has scheduled a special Unpacked event for later today in Berlin, Germany – which we’re going to be attending and report back all the hot news – whose main star is going to be the company’s next-generation phablet, the Galaxy Note 2.

Earlier this week we saw a last round of leaked specs and features for the device, that seemed to confirmed some of our own educated guesses. According to a Korean newspaper, the Galaxy Note 2 will feature a 5.5-inch touchscreen display with 1280 x 720 resolution, 1.4GHz quad core Exynos 4412 processor, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, 16/32GB internal memory, S Pen Stylus and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on board.

Today we have one more preview report for the event, this time coming from Reuters, that seems to confirm, one more time, the aforementioned details:

“There won’t be huge innovative changes in design, but the Note 2 will feature quite a few improvements and enable Samsung to carry on its strong sales momentum in the category,” said Lee Sun-tae, an analyst at NH Investment & Securities. “With the launch, Samsung will also be trying to turn around downbeat sentiment after the U.S. legal defeat.”

The new version of the Note is expected to feature a thinner and slightly bigger 5.5-inch screen, powerful quad-core processor, the latest version of Google’s Android operating system called Jellybean [sic], and improved stylus function.

Reuters reminds us this is a critical event for Samsung, being scheduled just a few days after the company has been delivered an extremely unfavorable verdict in the U.S. Apple vs Samsung trial.

On a different note (pun not intended,) Samsung has already sold over 10 million Galaxy Note units since releasing the first version at IFA last year, and other companies such LG and HTC are also developing their own phablets. The publication also says that phablet shipments could reach 208 million by 2015, according to ABI Research, which explains why Samsung is eager to launch a new high-end device three months after unveiling the Galaxy S3 – well that, and the fact a new iPhone is coming, which Samsung wants to fight with not just one, but two flagship devices.

We’ll be reporting more details later today when the show gets underway in Berlin, but in the mean time remember that we have a Galaxy Note 2 giveaway for you!
