The LG Optimus G is one of the most exciting Android smartphones on the horizon. It marks a departure from the budget end of the market for LG and signals its intention to compete with Samsung and HTC for Android flagship status. The specs are really impressive – we’re talking about a 4.7-inch true HD display, quad-core 1.5 GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 13-megapixel camera.
We already know that the LG Optimus G will be released in South Korea this month and there’s a chance that LG’s press event scheduled for September 19 will reveal details of a wider release for the US and Europe. We’ve already seen the claim that the LG Optimus G will feature the world’s best camera in a recent promo video. Now LG has released another video discussing the design of its new flagship device.
The video discusses a design philosophy that stretches back to the LG Chocolate and the LG Prada. It is an aesthetic that is all about focusing on the touchscreen with minimal decorative flourishes on the front. On the back we find a patented technology called “Crystal Reflection” which gives the phone a sparkling pattern as you move it around.
We are excited about the LG Optimus G, it really does have the potential to compete with the top smartphones, but we’ll reserve final judgment for a hands-on look. In the meantime check out the video (they blocked embedding for some reason so you’ll have to go to YouTube) and we hope to bring you news on its availability and pricing very soon.
