You don’t have to be a regular Facebook user to know that the social networking giant’s Android offering is bogus. In fact, if you were to go to the app’s Google Play Store page right now, you’d see all the reviews are either one star or two stars. It has been so bad that there have been rumors circulating about Facebook mobile developers being forced to use the Android app so they can experience how awful it is for themselves. He has not confirmed whether these rumors are true or not, but it would be awesome if they were.

One rumor that Zuckerberg did decide to talk about is the rumor that Facebook is in the midst of creating its own mobile phone. He publicly stated that Facebook was not working on a Facebook phone, adding, “The phone just doesn’t make any sense.” Facebook is instead going for integration with every mobile platform out there. With the user base about to hit a staggering 950 million, integration seems to be the better plan.
To start, Zuckerberg plans on making integration with Android a lot better. At the TechCrunch Disrupt Conference, Zuckerberg revealed that Facebook was taking their Android application in a new direction. Between all of the issues on the current platform and the lack of performance, any stock Facebook app user can agree that it’s a change that needs to be made.
Previously, the application was based on HTML5. During the conference, Zuckerberg stated that HTML5 was, “The biggest mistake we made as a company.” He goes on to describe how a native Android Facebook app is a much better idea.
Once the Facebook app goes native, it should fix many—if not all—of the issues users are currently having. We would list them, but there are simply too many. A few of the big ones include:
  1. No tablet interface.
  2. Frequent connection problems.
  3. No resizeable, scrolling widgets.
  4. Pictures don’t load appropriately. They also don’t sync properly to contact pictures.
If you add that all up with the issues not listed, what you get is a recipe for disaster.
There has been no release date on the new Facebook app. Zuckerberg is quoted as saying, “It’ll be ready when its ready.” Considering how each update makes a whole new group of users hate Facebook, here’s hoping that it is sooner rather than later.
