If you had trouble keeping up with HTC’s rather hectic smartphone naming scheme, the company’s latest dual-SIM mid-ranger will only make things harder to understand. The Desire SV is not to be mistaken with the recently released C and X members of the Desire family, though the three have quite a lot in common.
Sporting a 4.3-inch Super LCD 2 touchscreen with an 800 x 480 pixels resolution, the Desire SV is slated for an Indian release “this month”, but also for a wider rollout across Asia by the end of December. No words on launches outside the continent, although we’re guessing a European release is in store too.
As for pricing, Indian tech lovers will have this up for grabs for Rs. 22,590 in its SIM-free, unlocked flavor, which is around $420, based on today’s conversion rates.
Now let’s talk specs. The WVGA display is not the only modest feature of the Desire SV, who has mid-range written all over it. There’s a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor under the hood, just 768 MB of RAM, 4 GB of built-in memory, as well as microSD support for expanding the storage space.
The rear-facing 8 MP shooter sounds above average for this little guy’s “social status”, but for some reason it doesn’t do HD video recording. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS, the battery is a meager 1,620 mAh unit, while Beats Audio sound enhancements should take care of smooth audio reproduction. There’s no mention about the on-board OS, which is never a good sign, but ICS would still be decent for this hardware configuration.
Finally, there’s dual SIM support, however a single SIM version is said to be also coming soon. That model will even feature 4G LTE speeds, so if the US were to ever get this phone we’re guessing this is the variation most of you would like to see.
Both the dual and single SIM phones will come in a very familiar all-black body, but also in an original and funky black-and-orange combo that might be targeted specifically to youngsters. Any takers for either of the two versions? Would you want the Desire SV launched outside Asia?
