Music Explorer was one of the new features that we were given a look at earlier in the week when Android 4.2 Jelly Bean was announced. And while we were expecting it to arrive along with v4.2, it seems Google has quietly begun to roll this out for other users. We were able to see the Music Explorer feature on a Nexus 7 and those looking to see about their personal device — launch the Play Store, navigate to the Music section and then click on an artist or album.

From this view, as you can see in the above screenshot, the “explore similar artists” text will appear next to the pricing and the artist name and album title. A click on the link will bring you to the related artists section, but here is where it gets interesting. And you may want to read this before you click — in our tests — Google Play will automatically begin playing the album/track you were viewing.
Aside from the auto-playing of the track, the recommendations do not seem all that great. Well, the recommendations seem appropriate, however you are not given anything in terms of why that recommendation appears. But on the bright side, the interface is fun. You start with the initial few and can then scroll around and expand the recommendations out further.
Bottom line here, this sounds like a good feature, especially for those who like to explore and find new music, however we are thinking Google still has a bit of work to do in order to perfect this.
