Although Motorola made a lot of promises involving Jelly Bean and the company’s new line of smartphones, we didn’t expect much to happen very soon. After all, JB upgrading was bumpy all-around and Moto was definitely not the manufacturer with the cleanest track record of solid software support.
But while nothing major and official has yet happened, we are ready to say we’ve been proved wrong.
An unofficial Jelly Bean build for the Droid Razr HD/Maxx HD high-end duo has been leaked a couple of days back, and now the lower end Droid Razr M is treated with a mysterious “soak test” that can only be one thing.
We should definitely not get ahead of ourselves and expect the three phones to be treated with official Android 4.1 upgrades tomorrow, but Motorola’s vow of putting JB on the trio “by the end of the year” doesn’t seem like fantasy anymore.
The Droid Razr M has even got an early Jelly Bean serving spilled on the web several weeks ago, so if it’s JB that this soak test is about, we’re guessing it should be pretty glitch-free and almost ready for official rollout. But what guarantees that it’s the critical Android 4.1 update being tested and not just a maintenance tweak?
Well, for starters, minor updates are very rarely sent out to members of the Motorola Feedback Network. Also, there’s the use of “a new software release” phrasing in the e-mails sent by Moto’s forum manager instead of enhancement or tweak that basically shreds any doubt.
Here’s the email in full and if you notice anything else about it let us know. Also, we would love to hear from some recipients about whether or not the soak test has actually begun (don’t worry, we know that the info should be confidential, but we won’t tell anyone).
