Although it is just over one year old, Barnes & Noble’s Nook Tablet is definitely nearing its end of life. B&N has stopped selling the 7-incher on the company’s website for a while, with remainder stock being pushed out mostly through third-party retailers.
And while we’re guessing there aren’t that many items left to sell, B&N still needs to hold frequent special sales to ensure it can get rid of the pesky old tabs. The latest such offer sees the Nook’s price go way down to $89.99, which is basically what Amazon is charging for its latest Kindle e-reader.
Needless to say that the Nook Tablet has a lot more oomph than Amazon’s very basic gadget, but the catch is the Nook on sale is a refurbished device. That means the product, while having been “professionally restored to working order” and being “in excellent condition”, is not brand new and could well break down out of thin air after a little while.
Though that’s not really an imminent threat, you do have to think things through before getting this refurb Nook Tablet as B&N mentions nothing about any warranty. If you’re still tempted by the deal, you only have to go to eBay (I know how it sounds, but Barnes and Noble is still the direct seller of the device) and hit buy.
You’ll get free shipping too, so that’s another treat to make up for the likely lack of any kind of warranty, but there are “limited quantities available”, so hurry up.
The Nook Tablet comes with 16 GB of on-board storage, a 1 GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4 processor, 1 GB of RAM, microSD support, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and a skinned version of Android 2.3. The 7-incher weighs 400 grams and sports a 1,024 x 600 pixels resolution display.
