A few weeks ago we told you that Facebook started advising its employees via an interestingly named campaign – Droidfooding – to switch from iPhone to Android, in order to better understand what the Android app needs to provide users an even better experience.
We have no idea how well that strategy worked, but you don’t get to 1 billion users without being aware of the huge number of Android devices updating Facebook statuses each day. Now, there’s a new Facebook app waiting for you in the Google Play Store. And we’re looking at a complete app overhaul here, as the social giant has rebuilt its Android app from scratch going from HTML5 to a full native Android app.
Considering that the company already has a native iOS app, it’s no surprise to see Facebook offer the same set of standard features to its Android customers.
In a lengthy post on the company blog, Facebook detailed the Android application overhaul. The new app will offer you “improved speed and performance,” “faster loading, new user interfaces, disk cache, and so on.”
Features like News Feed and Timeline are obviously there and will load faster than before right alongside photos. The company “also built a new, automatically updated story banner to bubble up the newest stories, no matter where you are in news feed.”
