CES 2013 has not started, at least not officially, but the first media events already took place in Las Vegas. Android Authority attended the NVIDIA presser a few hours ago, and we have already shown you the hot new Tegra 4 SoC and the unexpected NVIDIA Tegra 4-based, Android-running Project Shield console/game controller.
But we’re certainly more interested in the first Tegra 4 devices that will be launched later this year, and it looks like Vizio will make the first tablet that will feature NVIDIA’s newest SoC – or at least it’s the first company to make public such a device.
The Verge had a sit down with Vizio officials and has more details about this unnamed 10.1-inch device. And it seems that Vizio is interested in making a hot comeback to the tablet business with a device that’s ready to take on the Nexus 10, at least on paper.
While it lacks a strong product name for now, the Vizio tablet will house the Tegra 4 SoC and run stock Android 4.2 Jelly Bean right out of the box, which is certainly interesting. Furthermore, the tablet will offer a high-end display with a 2560 x 1600 resolution, which puts it on par with Samsung’s Nexus 10.
Other specs include 32GB of storage, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi support, two cameras of unspecified resolution but what’s apparently really surprising about the device is that it’s a lot thinner than you’d expect a 10-inch tablet to be.
Pricing details and availability details are not official at this time, but we’ll certainly keep an eye out for them for you.
