As a tech blogger, it’s easy to get disillusioned about what is actually marvelous technology. 5-inch displays with 1080p resolution, quad-core processors, and 2GB of RAM in a mobile device seem “normal,” even though it’s quite amazing when you think about how far mobile hardware tech has come over the past few years.
After what feels like a long time, I’m finally excited about two great advances: Google Glasses and mobile devices with flexible devices. While the former is still in the early stages of development, the latter could be a reality as early as this month! That is, if rumors of Samsung showcasing the Samsung Galaxy Q (GT-B9150) at this year’s MWC are to be believed.
Granted, it’s not the flexible display tech as seen on some Sci-Fi shows that I was hoping for, but it’s a step in the right direction. The Samsung GT-B9150, supposedly called the Galaxy Q, will feature a dual Super AMOLED HD display which is foldable. Other rumored specifications of the Samsung Galaxy Q include:
- dual Super AMOLED HD display with 1920 x 1080 resolution
- 1.7 Ghz dual-core Exynos 5250 processor
- 2GB RAM
- 8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera
- 3,500 mAh battery
- Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean OS
That being said, take these rumors with a grain of salt, since we’ve been here before. Around the same time last year, we saw rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S3 featuring a flexible display, and every time Samsung showcases its display tech, rumors of flexible display smartphone come to the forefront.
What are your thoughts? Are you looking forward to owning a smartphone with a flexible display? Do you think the rumors are true? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
