Good news for users in the UK who thought EE’s pricing was far too high! Three UK has announced that they will not be charging a premium for LTE data usage. The carrier will be offering LTE at no extra cost. This means that whatever you are shelling out for 3G will be the same for LTE.
Three does not have a solid date when their LTE network will launch aside from “later this year”. If you can hold out on 3G for a bit longer though, you’ll be able to take advantage of this generous offer. If not, EE is still offering their limited 20GB data plan until the end of this month. Although it is much more expensive than what Three will allegedly offer.
In light of today’s announcement Dave Dyson, CEO of Three, released a statement explaining today’s announcement:
“As we add the next wave of technology to our Ultrafast network, we’ve listened to our customers and thought long and hard about the right way to do it. We don’t want to limit Ultrafast services to a select few based on a premium price and we’ve decided our customers will get this service as standard.”EE’s LTE pricing has been difficult to swallow, especially after some users coming off of cheap unlimited data plans for a mere £15.90. No doubt Three will be able to steal a lot of customers away from EE after their LTE network officially launches. There is one problem with Three’s announcement though. In fact, it can be summed up in one word: coverage.
Three can offer the most mouthwatering and attractive LTE plan in the UK. If their LTE network isn’t available to a wide amount of people though, it will mean next to nothing. If Three can provide LTE to a wide array of people, there’s no doubt that UK carriers are in for a price war. A price war means competition, and competition means innovation! We all love seeing innovation!
After Three’s LTE network launches, will you jump ship from your current carrier and join up with Three?
