Samsung’s hunger for fame and popularity knows no boundaries or limits, with the Galaxy makers always looking to cover all bases and conquer every single niche of the smartphone market. But sometimes it feels like they’re trying too hard and wasting valuable resources by unveiling underwhelming devices.
Case in point, the Galaxy Win. This is not an official phone, but a Vietnamese retailer seems to know quite a lot about it. Granted, it could all be a big hoax, but if someone would have simply made up the Win that someone would have probably made it a little more exciting.
Anyway, the Win looks like yet another mid-end big guy targeted specifically at budget-conscious folks in Asia and Europe (mostly Asia). The 4.7-inch display is said to boast a mediocre 800 x 480 pixels resolution, while the 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU is a bit of a dilemma.
This could either be an “old” S4 unit or a newer Snapdragon 200. Mainguyen, the Vietnamese retailer that has spilled the beans on the Galaxy Win, lists the GPU as an Adreno 203, but that doesn’t really help us in solving the processor puzzle. The 200 is coupled with the 203 GPU, but the same goes for the MSM8225Q and MSM8265Q chips in the S4 Play series.
Moving on, let’s say Win’s spec sheet also includes a 5 MP rear-facing snapper, a VGA front cam, a 2,000 mAh battery, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with Nature UX on top, dual-SIM support, microSD, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and GPS. The RAM and on-board storage are not mentioned, but don’t get your hopes up.
As for design, the Win is not quite an exact replica of the Galaxy S3, but it’s close enough. It looks almost identical to the Galaxy Grand too, which is why I feel this new guy is a little puzzling and underwhelming.
I mean, what exactly is the point here? And what users will Sammy be targeting with the Win come May, when the 4.7-incher should go on sale? The ones that feel the Grand is too big, the Galaxy S2 Plus too small and the Premier too expensive? Is there anyone out there that fits the description and actually thinks the Galaxy Win would be useful? Let us know in the comments section below.
