As if Samsung’s Galaxy was not crowded enough already, there are two new members of the family that were recently made official in China and expected out over the next few weeks. One is the Galaxy Win that leaked yesterday on the web and the other is a low-end to mid-range fellow called Galaxy Trend 2.
First things first, the Galaxy Win, which looks exactly the same as it did in the unofficial pics from yesterday. This means it’s basically a cheap Galaxy S3 clone with a 4.7-inch display. The large panel unfortunately boasts a sub-par WVGA resolution (800 x 480), so the resulting pixel density is a horrific 199 ppi.
But that’s just one of the reasons we wouldn’t recommend you to touch the Win with a ten-foot pole if you’re out for the best Android experience. Other reasons include the mediocre 5 MP rear-facing camera, the not-so-great 2,000 mAh battery and the 0.3 MP front snapper.
On the flipside, there is Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on board, and the processor doesn’t sound so pitiful – a quad-core 1.2 GHz unit. We don’t know the exact model yet, but it’s apparently Cortex A7-based, so it’s either a Snapdragon 400 or an S4 Play.
Some blanks remain unfilled regarding the Win’s spec sheet, including the RAM and on-board memory, while the pricing and exact release date are mysteries of their own. Oddly, only the single-SIM variant is listed by Samsung’s Chinese website at this time. Nevertheless, a dual-SIM model is likely to be released shortly as well.
Now let’s move on to the Trend 2, shall we? This is apparently the follow-up to the first-gen Trend, although it’s the first time I’m hearing that name. The Trend 2 is listed both with one SIM card slot (model number I739) and with dual-SIM support (S7572 or Trend 2 Duos).
And if the Win has a chance of making it outside Asia at some point, the Trend 2 is bound to remain exclusive to China, which makes sense, as there’s nothing really special about the thing.
Running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out the box, the Galaxy Trend 2 packs a modest 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and a meager 1,500 mAh battery in a body weighing in at around 128 grams. Measuring 11.1 mm in its single-SIM flavor and 11.3 mm in the dual-SIM variant, the Trend 2 is not the ugliest mid-ranger we’ve ever seen, but that’s because it, too, copies the Galaxy S3’s looks.
The 4-inch screen boasts the same WVGA resolution as the Win (naturally, with a higher 233 ppi pixel density), while the rest of the known features are sub-par, even by mid-range standards: a 3 MP camera, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, microSD support.
No word on when the Galaxy Trend 2 and Trend 2 Duos will go up for sale and for how much, but we expect the two to be relatively budget-friendly. Likewise, it makes sense for Samsung to target these devices at emerging markets, and we’re not sure if Samsung would be releasing these models to Europe and the Americas, apart from Asia.
What do you think would be fair prices to ask for the Win, Trend 2 and Trend 2 Duos? Would it make sense for Samsung to release them in Europe and/or America in addition to Asia? Would you buy any of them?
