It’s never too early to plan for a speed revolution. Although AT&T is still trailing behind Verizon in its 4G LTE network deployment, the carrier is reportedly already looking toward the future of mobile broadband technology, one that’s known as LTE Advanced.
Quoting a report from analytical firm Technology Business Research reported by FierceWireless, AT&T is planning to launch its LTE Advanced network in the second half of 2013.

“(AT&T’s) network strategy will involve mainly LTE networks and LTE Advanced networks, which AT&T will begin firing up in 2H13. These enhanced networks will provide faster speeds and coverage to its subscriber base, as well as open up growth opportunities in new segments,” the report says.
While this isn’t the first time that we heard about AT&T’s LTE Advanced deployment plan, we finally get some sort of unofficial starting date, though it’s still one that the spokesman of the company isn’t willing to comment on — yet.
LTE Advanced is expected to bring a significant speed enhancement over current 4G LTE technology. It works by “bonding non-contiguous spectrum into a single, wider channel,” which will help carriers deal with data traffic in a more efficient manner.
AT&T’s 4G LTE network is now available in over 100 markets and covers more than 150 million people in the country. Although AT&T has met its LTE rollout target for the year, do you think it should focus more on expanding its LTE coverage before jumping on LTE Advanced? Or is there no harm in investing for the future and starting early?
