Barnes & Noble is slowly making its presence felt in the UK. After releasing the two new Nook tablets, the Nook HD and the Nook HD+, the bookseller is now launching its movie streaming and download service, the Nook Video.
The service is accessible from the Nook store, where you can rent and buy movies in standard or HD format. The content partners include BBC, HBO, NBC Universal, Sony, Starz, and Warner Brothers, with hit movies and TV shows like Ted, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Dark Knight Rises, Game of Thrones, True Blood, and more.
As for what separates the Nook Video from similar services, it’s being heralded as the first digital retailer that offers UltraViolet titles in the UK.
When you purchase DVDs and Blu-ray movies in brick-and-mortar stores that come with the UltraViolet logo, you can easily access the digital version of the movies and watch them on your Nook tablets or via the Nook Video apps, which will be released soon for other slates and smartphones. All you have to do is link your UV account to the Nook Cloud – it’ll save a lot of time ripping the disc yourself.
If the Nook Video isn’t a good enough reason for you to go the Nook way, there’s always the fact that they come with gorgeous high-res displays – 1,440 x 900 resolution on the 7-inch Nook HD and 1,920 x 1,280 resolution on the 9-inch Nook HD+. The prices aren’t bad either.
