Byond launches 5.7-inch Phablet PII Android 4.1 Jelly Bean smartphone for Rs 14,999 ($288)

Byond is well-known for its series of budget-friendly tablets, but is relatively new to Indian smartphone scene. After a slew of great offerings, Byond released the Phablet PIII, a 6-inch ICS-running smartphone in December last year, and are now following that up with younger sibling, the Phablet PII, which boasts a slightly smaller 5.7-inch Android smartphone that features the added benefit of running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box.

And here I was thinking that only Chinese manufacturers (Huawei with the Ascend Mate and KingCom with the Padphone 61) were crazy enough to come out with smartphones with such large displays!
Here is a quick specs and features rundown for the Byond Phablet PII:

Byond has been marketing its devices quite aggressively in the hopes of competing effectively with rivals such as Micromax, Karbonn and Spice. While most companies have been happy sticking to a 5-inch limit, Byond has gone beyond (no pun intended) everyone’s expectations, by offering a couple of great devices in the “phablet” category. Unfortunately, the price, at Rs 14,999 (~$288) is quite steep considering other smartphones available in the market, but none boast such a large display.
Byond has big plans for 2013, and if the company has decided to follow a strategy that others have made successful, which is of flooding the market with numerous releases, this is only the beginning of what we can come to expect from the Pune-based tech firm.
