Even if Nexus 4’s limited supply issues have technically come to a happy ending, it’s still not very easy to track the sneaky little devil. The US Play Store has both the 8 and 16 GB versions in stock, but shipping seems to take a while, not to mention you could see that cursed “out of stock” message pop up anytime.
Meanwhile, if you’d rather play around with the N4 a little before committing to it, T-Mobile retail stores should be your primary target. And a few Best Buy and Walmart locations.
But, if you need an additional hand in tracking stores you can score a Nexus 4 in, Google promises to come to your rescue. A dedicated store locator powered by Google Maps has gone live yesterday, making the previous CSI-like investigative work a piece of cake.
You just enter your address (more or less specific) or your zipcode, hit “find a location” within 5, 10, 20 or 50 miles, and, voila, you’ll get a comprehensive list of all the close shops that have the N4 up for grabs.
Sounds awesome and it is quite the nifty idea, but unfortunately there are a couple of catches. The locator only seems to show T-Mobile stores that are stocking the Nexus 4 and there’s no information on the actual availability status. Meaning you’ll still want to hit the stores with a phone call and make sure their supply is strong. Or you can just go down there and take your chances.
A similar store locator for the Nexus 7 has been live for a while, so if you have trouble locating the tab you should give that a whirl too.
