Now that the long wait for the BlackBerry 10 OS is finally over, the focus has shifted onto the first set of handsets that will arrive on the market pre-loaded with it. One of these handsets is the BlackBerry Z10, and it is particularly interesting because it completely does away with navigational buttons and instead has users rely on the touchscreen display to make their way around the software.
Though the BlackBerry Z10 is still unavailable in most areas, it has already been taken apart by UBM TechInsights as part of a teardown feature to reveal what exactly makes it tick. As it turns out, the BlackBerry Z10 uses parts that can be found in many of today’s high-end smartphones from other manufacturers. To be more specific, it has bits that are in use in today’s king of all smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy S3.
The BlackBerry Z10 teardown reveals that the phone’s components were supplied by a number of different companies, which include Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, Synaptics, and even Samsung itself. The fact that it uses parts present in today’s most popular models actually makes sense, especially when you consider that hardware is part of the reason why so many people bought the likes of the Galaxy S3 in the first place.
The question now is, will the combination of popular hardware and top-of-the-line software be enough to propel the BlackBerry name back into the smartphone market spotlight? Keep in mind, this is the same device that’s capable of running Android apps down the line. No one really knows what’s going to happen, but at this point at least it’s clear that BlackBerry isn’t going to go down without some sort of fight.
