LG has started teasing the new Optimus L series with an “unexpected distinction” last week, but, with MWC still a little ways down the road, we wouldn’t have expected to hear a whole lot about the phones so soon.
And yet here we are, talking about the L3 II, L5 II and L7 II like we’ve known each other our whole life. The trio’s specs were spilled a couple of days ago and now new details have emerged to make the big picture even clearer.
The L3 II, also known as the E430 or E435, has been spotted in some awfully blurry pics that confirm its relation with last year’s E400 (aka the original L3). Unlike the 2012 low-ender, the new guy is a tad less stylish, with curvier edges and a plasticky finish that makes it look cheap.
We’re not very taken with the all-white look, while the bezel, especially the horizontal one, is humongous and covers up a lot of precious screen real estate. The model pictured (E435) has two SIM card slots, but rumor has it the other version (E430) will be a single-SIM handheld.
That’s good we guess, but it won’t be enough to lift a very modest device that ultimately doesn’t look like much of an upgrade over the first-gen Optimus L3. As a reminder, this L3 II is said to come with a 3.2-inch QVGA panel, a single-core Qualcomm CPU, a 5 MP rear-facing camera, 4 GB of internal memory and microSD support.
Moving on towards more exciting heights, the Optimus L5 II and L7 II have allegedly been spotted in GLBenchmark’s database. We’re not too convinced about that, because one of the model numbers is a bit off.
The E455 is said to be the L5 II, but how does that make sense when the first-gen L5 was numbered E610? No idea, but the E455 does look better than last year’s L5, having Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean on board, a 1 GHz MediaTek MT6575 chip, PowerVR SGX 531 graphics and a 800 x 480 pix res display (probably a 4-incher).
The actual benchmark result for offscreen high-level 3D performance is also better than L5’s (2.4 fps vs 1.0 fps), while certain sources tell us that LG is planning to make the L5 II also available in both single and dual SIM versions.
As for the last unreleased LG device we’ve heard word about today, that’s undoubtedly L7’s follow-up, being codenamed P715 (the L7 is P700). This is by far the coolest device out of the trio, although it’s not exactly a top-tier phone.
There’s Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean on board of this fellow, as well as an 8 MP camera, optional dual SIM support and a hefty 2,460 mAh battery, but the dual-core 1 GHz S4 Play CPU, Adreno 203 GPU and 4.3-inch WVGA display don’t sound awfully special.
That said, we certainly hope LG has some other aces up its sleeve for MWC also (like an L9 II, maybe). Otherwise, we really can’t see the point of that hype-building marketing campaign, can we?
