HTC Desire P officially released in Taiwan

While the HTC One may be the only high-end offering from the company this year (although there is a possibility of a second-generation Butterfly), HTC is certainly not going to ignore the low-end to mid-range smartphone sector. We knew that the HTC Desire P and Desire Q were on their way soon. Now, the Desire P has shown up on the HTC Taiwan website, confirming everything we’d found out about the mid-range a few days ago.

Here is a quick look at the specifications of the HTC Desire P:

• 4.3-inch Super LCD2 display
• 1Ghz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Play processor
• Adrene 203 GPU
• 768MB RAM
• 4GB internal storage, expandable via microSD
• 8MP rear camera
• 1,620 mAh battery
• Beats Audio

The specifications are identical to that of the HTC Desire SV that was released last year, without Dual-SIM support. The leaked specifications suggested the possibility of a front-facing camera, but that seems to be missing. Also unavailable is a confirmation on what Android OS version the Desire P is running, but we hope that it’ll be Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, with the HTC Sense 4+ UI overlay.
The HTC Desire P will be available exclusively from Chunghwa Telecom in Taiwan soon, and will be priced at NT $10,900 (~$365) which does seem a little steep for a mid-range device. Earlier rumors suggested that the HTC Desire P would be released only in Taiwan, and we don’t have any information yet on whether this device will see a global release.
