Confirmed: HTC sends out invites for an event in New York on February 19th

Earlier today we published a report from DigiTimes that said HTC was going to host an event in February to announce the M7 and that the device would launch a month later in March. In the report we said the unveiling would take place in London, but that’s now incorrect. According to SlashGear, who managed to get their hands on an invitation directly from HTC, the Taiwanese handset maker will hold an event in New York City, specifically on the 19th of February at 10:00 local time.

What’s going to be announced there? Come on now, you should all know the answer to this one! It’s the M7, the company’s first flagship device of 2013. We say “first” flagship device, because knowing how HTC operates, chances are the M7 is going to be refreshed within six months.
But enough niggles about product planning, what’s so special the M7? Think of the DNA/Butterfly that’s currently out now in America and many parts of Asia. It’s a fantastic 1080p smartphone, the world’s first, but it’s a tad on the bulky size due to the 5 inch screen. The M7 will shrink that down to 4.7 inches, bump up the processor to a quad core 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4, and the camera gets upgraded to 13 megapixels.
What’s the M7 going to look like? We have a sneaking suspsiion it’s going to look a lot like the DNA/Butterfly, and that’s OK. What we’re going to be paying attention to is HTC’s latest version of Sense. From the leaked screenshots we’ve seen thus far, it looks to be a huge improvement from the ghastly software the company dares to call “quietly brilliant”. Look, we get that there are Sense fans out there, but apparently you guys are hugely outnumbered by TouchWiz fans.
