We all know that HTC is going to host an event later this month, on the 19th, and that at said event we’re finally going to hear about the M7. If you haven’t heard about the M7 by now, you’ve probably been living under a rock, but here’s a quick recap: It’s basically the DNA/Butterfly, but with a smaller 4.7 inch screen, 13 megapixel camera, and a brand new version of Sense that doesn’t make you want to run to the bathroom and purge yourself. But what happens after the 19th?
Thanks to the Twitter user @evleaks, who has a stunning track record when it comes to rumors, we now know about two additional devices in HTC’s 2013 portfolio. Let’s start with the more interesting one, the M4. As the name suggests, it isn’t as fancy as the M7, but it’s still one hell of a capable device. It’ll have a 4.3 inch 720p display, 1.2 GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon, the same 13 megapixel camera as the M7, and half the storage. This may very well be the more popular device as there’s an increasingly vocal crowd of people who are demanding smaller phones.
As for the second model, the G2, let’s be blunt: It’s a waste of HTC’s time. We’re talking 3.5 inch HVGA screen, 1 GHz processor, and that’s about it. Why is HTC even bothering to fight in the low end space? Forget about Samsung for a second, it’s Chinese players like Huawei and ZTE that are making a killing in the low end arena. For HTC to enter that market is just asking for pain.
So now for the important question: When will these two phones be officially announced? According to @evleaks, it’ll happen at some point during the spring, which we’re going to translate as Q2 2013.
As soon as we hear more, we’ll let you know!
