They say you have to be objective and fair with everyone when working in the media industry, but we’re all human, so we’ll be straight with you. We’re big fans of MetroPCS. Maybe not fans in a groupie kind of way, but we like Metro.
When it comes to prepaid wireless providers in the States, they’re definitely the bomb. They have a really nice and wide selection of Android phones that includes beasts like the Samsung Galaxy S3, but also dirt-cheap little fellows like the Galaxy Admire 4G or LG Motion 4G. Their prices are hot, their plans are fair and they’re even doing their best to spread LTE across the country.
But starting today we have one more reason to be MetroPCS fans – the LG Spirit 4G. The newest budget-friendly device on the network costs only 200 bucks while sporting a fashionably large 4.5-inch display.
That’s $200 off contract, of course, and, besides a big-ass display with Corning Gorilla Glass, you also get a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 4G LTE speeds, a 5 MP rear-facing snapper, a 1.3 MP front-facing cam, 4 GB of internal memory, microSD support, and a 2,150 mAh battery.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold on, do you really get all that for 200 bucks? That’s crazy! Well, it is and it isn’t, because there are a few things off about the Spirit. For starters, there’s no mention of the display’s resolution yet and that’s never a good sign.
You also only get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box and we know how slow LG is with software updates. As for the $200 price point, that’s only after a 70 bucks mail-in rebate, so you’ll have to cough up $270 upfront after all.
Nah, that still doesn’t make this big guy look bad. Not even if you forget about the rebate. As for ICS, let’s drop the act, Jelly Bean is cool and all, but we can live without Project Butter and Google Now, can’t we?
All things considered, are you ready to let the Spirit haunt you?
