Struggling UK high street retailer GAME seems to be pretty keen on Android gaming platforms lately. We’ve already heard that OUYA is currently available for pre-order at GAME, and it looks like the retailer will also be the only place in the UK to physically sell Gamestick when it goes on sale in June.
You can now pre-order Gamestick from GAME for a pretty modest sum of £79.99, which will give you a single Bluetooth controller and the all important little HDMI stick. If you’re in need of an extra gamepad and charging dock then GAME is also selling these accessories for an extra £34.99.
For those unfamiliar with Gamestick; it’s an entire gaming system is enclosed in a small HDMI dongle, which comes with an Amlogic 8726-MXS processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, a microSD slot for up to 32Gb additional storage, WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, and Android Jelly Bean 4.2. Hardware wise it’s certainly no Playstation 4, but if you fancy some casual gaming on your big screen TV then Gamestick could be just what you’re looking for.
There’s also a slightly cheaper way to get your hands on a Gamestick, providing that you’re willing to order directly from the developers across the pond. But whilst Gamestick only costs $79 (approximately £51) in the US, there is an additional $24.99 (£16.50) shipping charge and the associated transatlantic delivery time to factor in too. So you’ll have to weigh up whether it’s worth the £13 saving to have one shipped over from the US.
