LG have been riding the crest in recent months with smartphones such as the Nexus 4 and the Optimus G becoming commercial hits around the world. Not resting on their laurels, it seems that the Korean electronics giant is well on schedule with their next flagship smartphone, likely to be named the Optimus G2.
According to Engadget, the phone will be a direct sequel to the Optimus G and will be available globally towards the end of the year, with a launch date sometime in Q3 (July-September). The company is keeping everyone in the dark on what the phone might look like, with LG’s head of Mobile Marketing Won Kim only saying that it would be “something different and unique.”
Speculation is going to be rife with what might be included on the device, with rumours already going around that it will have a 5-inch display. With consumers already having their appetites stimulated by the upcoming releases of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One, it seems that LG is looking to one up its competitors.
As for the precise date when the new Optimus G2 will be unveiled, our bet is on the second week of September, when the IFA Berlin trade show takes place. Back in February, a report supposedly coming from an LG executive claimed that the G2 will be shown at IFA, and today’s report gives the rumor credence.
