We’ve been hearing bits and pieces
about Pantech’s new Vega Iron handset over the past few days, but now
we can finally confirm some of the rumors, as the phone has shown up in a
press release on the official Pantech website.
The translated web page confirms some of the specifications
we’d expected, and also highlights some of the phone’s software
features.
The unbelievably sleek looking Vega Iron has a 5-inch 720p
display and comes with a speedy 1.7Ghz quad-core Snapdragon 600 chip as
rumored. This puts it in direct competition with the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 when it comes to processing power and screen size, but the display resolution is a tad disapointing.
Pantech’s Vega Iron also comes with everything else you’d
expect from a high spec device; 802.11n WiFi, LTE compatibility, and
both 13MP front and 2.1MP rear cameras. The handset also has 2Gb RAM,
32Gb of built in storage, and support for a massive 2Tb of additional
storage via SD Card, if you can actually find a card with that much
memory. The Pantech Vega Iron has dimensions of 136.3 x 67.6 x 8.8mm and
weighs in at 153g.
Sadly the rumoured 2150 mAh battery also turns out to be
true, leaving the handset somewhat lacking when it comes to battery
life.
The product page also mentions a couple of features that we
hadn’t previously noticed. The front camera supports “Gaze
Recognitition”, which can be used to automatically scroll the screen and
pause videos. The phone also includes an “Intelligent Camera” function
to help pick the optimum shooting mode based on your environment.
The Vega Iron will ship with Jelly Bean 4.1.2, and will be available
in either black or white. Now we’ll just have to wait and see which
carriers will be offering the handset, and how much it will cost.
