In case you missed the action earlier today, we’ll remind you that Motorola held a special media event in London to unveil its first Intel-based smartphone ever. The two companies announced way back in early 2012 that they will work together to release various Android-based devices featuring Intel’s Medfield chips, and the Motorola RAZR i is the first in the Motorola-Intel family.
The handset is a RAZR M variation, also a recently announced Android handset, and it will offer you a bunch of interesting features such a 4.3-inch touchscreen Super AMOLED Advance edge-to-edge display with 960 x 540 resolution, a 2GHz Intel Atom processor, 8/16/32GB of memory, microSD support, 8-megapixel camera, NFC, 2000mAh battery and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgradeable to Jelly Bean.
But what Motorola failed to specify during the event is actual availability dates for the new Intel-based handset. What we’ve been told is that the handset will hit European and Latin American markets in early October, and we’re still waiting to see what carriers will pick this handset up. Not to mention that we’re definitely interested to see whether U.S. carriers will be interested in the RAZR i.
Meanwhile, Clove UK has announced a release date window for the handset, as well as pricing details. The Android smartphone should be available from the retailer in the first week of October, although it’s worth pointing out that, again, we don’t have a firm launch date.
Clove is already taking pre-orders for the RAZR i, which will set you back £342 (VAT included), or around $556. Naturally, this is the off-contract price for the unlocked device, so in case you’re not ready to spend that much cash to experiment with an Intel-based smartphone then you may as well wait for local carriers to subsidize it.
