Owners of Samsung Galaxy S3 got quite a scare yesterday following the discovery of a security vulnerability on the device – as well as on the Galaxy S2, Galaxy S Advance, Galaxy Beam, and Galaxy Ace, and possibly more. The exploit can wipe out the content on your device if you click on a website link containing the piece of malicious code.
However, we then learned that it doesn’t affect all Galaxy S3 phones, especially those that already run Jelly Bean or don’t use the stock browser. Likewise, the AT&T and European variant of the Galaxy S3 apparently aren’t affected as well, thanks to a software update that was rolled out last week for the two.
Providing some calm for consumers who are still worried about the possibility of losing their data from such seemingly simple hacks, Samsung has issued the following statement:
“We would like to assure our customers that the recent security issue concerning the GALAXY S III has already been resolved through a software update. We recommend all GALAXY S III customers to download the latest software update, which can be done quickly and easily via the Over-The-Air (OTA) service.”We’re kind of hoping that Samsung would make it clear as to which device is affected and provide the solution, because the problem isn’t unique to the Galaxy S3. It’d be great as well if they could specify the firmware that contains the fix. That being said – acknowledging the issue in about a day after the vulnerability was discovered is a good start, which we hope will be followed up with more details soon.
How worried are you about the one-click reset hack?
