The Amazon smartphones continue! After previous rumors suggested the delay of the still unconfirmed smartphone and the possibility of the device featuring a 4.7-inch display, a new rumor, again from Digitimes, suggests that Innolux will be supplying the TFT-LCD panels for the Amazon phone, according to Taiwan-based supply chain sources.
Sources say that Amazon’s order for the panels will be used for its upcoming smartphone, and will help Innolux further expand its customer base this year, and could give the company the opportunity to make up for losses it has suffered over the past few years. The source also re-iterated the previous rumor of a delayed launch of the device, which was expected to release in Q2, because of production and manufacturing difficulty faced by Foxconn International Holdings.
Once again, keep the salt around, because rumors of an Amazon smartphone have been around for over two years now, but hasn’t seen the light of day yet. That being said, the rumors have been increasing recently, but we still don’t know anything about the specifications of the device other than the size of the display, and now, who will be supplying the panels.
Amazon has been doing very well since its entry in the Android tablet arena, and while the competition is a lot stiffer in the smartphone world, the entry of an Amazon smartphone, especially if priced right, could be interesting.
What are your thoughts? With the rumors of an Amazon smartphone increasing, do you think there is a real possibility of the device releasing this year? Let us know in the comments section below.
