A few days ago we told you that Samsung may just launch a new Nexus device in the near future, its third handset reportedly conceived with Google in as many years, the Galaxy Nexus 2, aka the GT-I9260. That model number is awfully close to the Galaxy Nexus’s GT-I9250 number, which is why almost everyone in the tech news-reporting business is speculating that we’re looking at the second-generation Galaxy Nexus device.
Corroborate the current Galaxy Nexus 2 rumors with other existing reports that suggest that Google will launch a variety of Nexus-branded devices this year (potential candidates are the Galaxy Nexus 2, the LG Optimus Nexus, the Sony Xperia Nexus or the HTC Nexus 5) and you’ll understand why it’s seems logical that the GT-I9260 would rather be called the Galaxy Nexus 2 instead of the Galaxy Premier, another moniker used for the device. Although Galaxy Nexus Premier would also make some sense, since Samsung would probably try to avoid having “Nexus 2″ anywhere in the name of a handset.
Today we’re looking at more evidence that shows us the Galaxy Nexus 2 is in testing. GSM Arena shows us a photo uploaded to Picasa on September 19 from the Samsung GT-I9260. According to EXIF information from the image, the camera of the device features a F/2.65 aperture and 4mm focal length, a camera that’s similar to the one found on the Galaxy S2. Furthermore, one of the images reveals “a portion of an Excel window with a table listing Bluetooth specs for something, but there’s nothing interesting that can be made out. “
The GT-I9260 is also said to feature a similar 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD that’s found on its predecessor, a Cortex-A9 dual-core processor running at 1.5GHz (compared to the Galaxy Nexus’s 1.2GHz CPU) and microSD support. As for Android version, we would expect it to run Jelly Bean out of the box. According to the EXIF data, two firmware versions have already been spotted, I9260XXALI5 and I9260XXALI6.
