Back when the market wasn’t inundated yet with quad-core smartphones, Huawei surprised the world with its Ascend D1 Quad phone. The D1, as the full name suggests, packs the company’s own quad-core K3V2 CPU clocked at 1.2GHz, which has proven to be quite a challenge to produce. After a series of delays, the Ascend D1 Quad is finally available for purchase in Huawei’s home country.

While the phone isn’t supposed to officially hit the market until September 12, you can already get your hands on the Ascend D1 Quad online for 2,699 Yuan ($425). Interested? You’ll have to wait until the stock is replenished in about two weeks since the first batch is already sold out.
The good news is certainly welcomed by Huawei, as it tries to quell competition not only from major manufacturers outside China, but also local players like Xiaomi.
Huawei’s chairman Richard Yu has left a cutting remark on its Weibo page about its rival. When asked about the price discrepancy between Huawei Ascend D1 Quad and the Xiaomi Mi2, which is going for 1,999 Yuan, he said that Huawei’s offering is of a better quality thanks to the company’s experience and the materials selection.
We’re not going to take sides just yet, but you’re very much welcome to do so. Would you opt for the Huawei Ascend D1 Quad or the Xiaomi Mi2 and its quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro chip?
