Good news for UK-based Samsung Galaxy S3 owners on Orange – Quick Tap NFC mobile payments are available to customers starting today. Thanks to a partnership between Orange and Barclaycard, the Galaxy S3 will be the first device to allow Quick Tap contactless payments in the UK.
The new system allows Galaxy S3 owners to add a Visa or Mastercard, debit or credit card, to their phone and use it to make contactless payments of up to £20 simply by tapping their phone at payment terminals. Over 100,000 locations nationwide can accept contactless payments including McDonalds, M&S, and Co-op Food.
In order to get started with NFC contactless payments customers need to install an app and set up a card with the secure Barclaycard service. It’s possible to load funds of up to £150 into the Quick Tap account and the app is PIN protected. Customers can also choose to make payments PIN protected if they want to, although it will reduce the convenience factor.
The service is available to any new and upgrading Galaxy S3 owners and, as an extra incentive, anyone who activates the service between the 5th of September and the 5th of October will receive £50 to spend free.
The Quick Tap Wallet app is available in Google Play now. While the service will work for new and upgrading customers who opt for the Samsung Galaxy S3, any existing Galaxy S3 owners on Orange will have to get a new SIM before they can enjoy contactless payments.
We can expect to see the same technology roll out to other Orange smartphones in the near future.
