Back in October of last year, Amazon packed the new Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD – the 7-inch model only — into its suitcase en route to Japan, where the online retailer giant also launched its Kindle Store.
If you’re puzzled by Amazon’s decision to leave out the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD from the trip, the company has now redeemed itself by putting the bigger tablet up for pre-order in the country, four months after the slate’s U.S. debut.
The WiFi Kindle Fire HD 8.9 in 16GB flavor is selling for ¥24,800 or $269, while the 32GB model can be had for ¥29,800 or $322. You can purchase them either online or through select local stores. Amazon said that the first batch of pre-orders will be shipped out on March 12.
In case you’re more interested in the smaller variants, the 16GB and 32GB Kindle Fire HD are going for ¥15,800 ($197) and ¥19,800 ($247), respectively.
