The 5.7-inch ZTE Grand Memo phablet was one of the stars of the first days of this year’s MWC event, particularly because it was, for a brief moment, the first official Android device to pack a Qualcomm 800 processor.
However, that turned out not to be true and it was later discovered that the device doesn’t even pack a Qualcomm 600 processor, the one found inside the HTC One and rumoured to also equip at least some versions of the Galaxy S4.
Instead, the ZTE Grand Memo apparently packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU and 1GB of RAM instead of 2GB as it was rumored at some point.
Now that you know the story behind this controversial announcement, you can check out or first hands-on preview of the ZTE Grand Memo at MWC 2013 and inspect the phablet for yourself.
Considering that the wow factor for the Grand Memo, a very strong processor, turned into an unexpected MWC scandal, the device isn’t as exciting as it was a couple of days ago.
In case you were wondering, the ZTE phablet is even bigger than the more famous Galaxy Note 2, which is something to keep in mind before buying it. Otherwise, the Grand Memo has Samsung-like plastic design elements but we will notice its 13-megapixel rear shooter.
When it comes to actual experience, the ZTE Grand Memo should deliver a great smartphone performance, after all, we’re still looking at a Snapdragon S4 Pro processor inside, but we found it to be a bit laggy in certain instances, like browsing through apps.
Hopefully software issues, if any, will be ironed out by the time the device will launch in mid-April. And we definitely expect ZTE not to make similar mistakes when it comes to properly announcing a device at an event such as MWC.
