As expected, Huawei unveiled the Ascend P2 Android smartphone at this year’s MWC edition in Barcelona, Spain, and we went in for a quick hands-on preview with this mid-ranged handset.
But is it really a mid-ranged device? From our experience with it, we can say that the Ascend P2 could be placed somewhere between mid-range and high-end, although the handset isn’t exactly comparable to other 2013 flagships, such as Huawei’s Ascend D2.
The Ascend P2 packs some interesting hardware including a 4.7-inch 720p display with Corning Gorilla 2, a 1.5GHz quad-core K3V2 processor (made by the same company,) 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, microSD support, 13-megapixel camera with dedicated hardware button, 2420mAh battery and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with Huawei’s own Emotion UI on top, as seen in the video.
Despite being a 4.7-inch display, the handset can be handled with ease with one hand and we liked the industrial look and matte finish.
The Ascend P2 runs Jelly Bean out of the box, even if it’s not the latest version and it seems ready to offer you a great Android experience, although it will only launch at some point in Q2 2013, at a time you may be considering different handsets as your next smartphone purchase. Not to mention that by then you’ll be interested in a totally different Android version.
